Most people have forgotten the meaning behind traditional or religious festivals; during festival periods, people nowadays only want to enjoy themselves.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion.

It has been noticed that the traditional and religious origins of festivals have been almost forgotten and some people only enjoy themselves when they attend these events. My own view is that if a balance was struck between tradition and modern way of living the origins of festivals would be respected.

Given the fact that all cultures are dynamic, it is not to be expected that festivals are held as the same way as they used to. Beliefs, values, and norms are constantly changing and because of that the purpose of festivals may not be understandable anymore. Therefore, from time to time the whole idea behind them comes down to enjoyment.

Despite the dynamic nature of cultures, our past defines who we are now. Parts of our tradition and religion have arisen from our ancestors' mistakes. If we forgot them we would probably make same mistakes again. In other words, it will be west of time, energy and effort if the wheel is reinvented. Ergo, it is our duty to protect our cultural heritage and its metaphors which are traditional and religious festivals. In order to do that a balance must be struck between cultural inheritance and modern life.

In conclusion, arisen from our ancestors' culture it is quite natural that original meaning of festivals pale into insignificance and most people treat them as opportunities to have fun in spite of the fact that their origins make us who we are. To my mind, maintaining a balance between beliefs, values, and norms of modern people and those of our ancestors is the key to prevent the meaning behind festivals to be forgotten.
