Would you please explain ?

#1-The road branches off to the church.
#2-The road branches off toward the church.
#3-The road branches  towards the church.

I'd like to know the difference of meaning between #1 and #2
also between #2 and #3.
Would you please explain ?

Would you please explain ? I see no difference in intent. Perhaps 2 and 3 only go near the church and not to it.
