00The collective, high frequency, dynamics of molten sodium has been studied by means of Inelastic Neutron Scattering. Two different theoretical approaches within the scheme of generalized hydrodynamics are tested against the experimental data: i) starting from simple liquids paradigm, we extend the memory function formalism including concentration fluctuations variable ii) we apply Generalized Collective Mode theory to identify the very nature of the observed excitations. We find clear evidence of a crossover between a low Q, collective region, to an high Q region dominated by atom-type excitations. The collective region is characterized by a positive dispersion of viscoelastic origin. This result, based on experimental data, clarifies the difference between fast sound and positive dispersion phenomena often observed in liquids. 0-
