"Anthropos" is the Greek word for "man" which suggests that the word anthropology has a long history in the English language. Anthropology is concerned with human behavior in all places and at all times. Some people may think that anthropologists are kind of adventurers who are constantly involved in glamorous activities. But in reality, they have to cope with many tedious and boring tasks.

The development of anthropology is believed to get shaped in Western civilization. However, after the Age of exploration, non-Western people were the top priority of anthropologist's study. Today, anthropology, as an all-inclusive social science, falls into two broad branches: physical anthropology and cultural anthropology.

Physical anthropology, as its name suggests, has to do with the development of humans as mammals. Anatomy, biology, and paleontology are three related sciences which cooperate with physical anthropology. On the other hand, cultural anthropology is the study of learned behavior in human societies. Archaeology, linguistics and ethnography are three subfields of cultural anthropology.

Eventually, psychological anthropology, which is concerned with human personality and feelings, is the third main category of anthropology. This category makes a close relationship with psychology and psychiatry to find out how human feelings are affected by some different factors.

Professionally, anthropologists,in modern day, are getting more and more practical jobs in different societies. They help us plan the future and solve our problems as human beings. Applied anthropology plays an important role in not only finding solutions to our past problem, but also in showing humans where they are approaching in the futur.
