From an overall perspective, whilst the Europe had been recognized as the continent consisting of the largest forest area over 15 years of the research time, the forest area of the Oceania was the smallest.

According to the figure that five regions which witnessed the downward trend in their forest areas are Africa, Oceania and both North and South of America. Both South America and Africa had their forest areas decrease the most as approximately 60 million ha of the forest area of each region was destroyed.

In addition, Asia and Europe have experienced the slight increase in woodland area over the period of 1990 through 2005. Not only the forest space of Asia, but Europe’s one also has a minimal rise that was just over 12 million ha
