"would you like to" vs "would you care to"

So I overheard a student asking another person on the bus, "would you care to take a seat?" This is the first time I noticed this usage. often times I hear "would you like to take a seat." Im wondering if there's any difference between these two? Thank you.

No, there is no real difference. "Would you care to" is just a different, more formal way to say 'Would you like to."
