Would you get me a drink? Paraphrase

Hi teachers,
Mary: Would you get me a drink, Peter?
In this question Mary is asking Peter to obtain a drink for her. Right?
Paraphrase: Would you obtain a drink for me?
If so, the 'would you' can be used for formal an informal situations or only for formal?
Is it just a polite way to ask someone for something, even if they are friends?

Thanks in advance.
