Would you explain about what "nap" means?

i have known that "nap" means  a short period of sleep.
then I read " kidnap" in a line. then I got curious about  what "nap" of "kid-nap" means".  so I tried to find in the dictonary like below.

but  I can't understand the underlined. Please advise me.
