Would ...woulld/will

Hi

Is is better to use 2 woulds or is it Ok to use will after the first would? Is it something to do with style?
  1. If I were president for a year I would spend more money because that would create more jobs
  2. If I were president for a year I would spend more money because that will create more jobs
Is it OK to use could or can in the same sentence?
  1. If I were president for a year I would spend more money because that could create more jobs
  2. If I were president for a year I would spend more money because that can create more jobs
Thanks for any help

Ann, Your sentences are OK. You have used the subjunctive correctly. It's the bits after the word "because" that might pose a problem (but not gramatically).

AnonymousHi,
Is it O.K to use the word "would" twice, or is it O.K to use "will" after the first "would"? Does it have something to do with style?

If I were a president for a year, I would spend more money to (because that would) create more jobs.

Dear Regards,

Firstly, Ann's sentence was: "If I were president, etc.

She did not write "If I were a president, etc.", as you have written.

Secondly, The sentences: "If I were president for a year, I would spend more money because that would create more jobs" and "If I were a president for a year,

Hi Guys

Thanks very much for your answers

May I ask another question.

What's the difference in meaning between using would and will in the sentences below? Does one add more certainty or does adding the second would indicate it only happens if the first condition is fulfilled?

Hi again

Thanks for very much for your time.

Can I ask one more question related to the same topic.
  1. If I were president for a year I would spend more money because that would create more jobs
  2. If I were president for a year I would spend more money because that will create more jobs
Is 1 (2 woulds) better than 2 (1would

Personally, I would keep them consistent and use 'would' in both places.
