'would want to V'

"The only reason I made lots of mistakes at that time is that I would not want to make the same mistakes after that."

I made the sentence in my diary and I was wondering if the sentence is natural to write or not and when can we use 'would wand to V'? I think that 'would like to V' is common to use, but I have never heard of 'would want to V'.

What do you native English speakers think? Thank you so much as usual in advance.

g. "I wouldn't want to upset them"), but I'm not sure that your sentence is correct or really makes sense. It sounds as if you deliberately made mistakes at one time in order not to make them in the future, which seems odd.

  • Could you explain a bit more about what you believe the sentence to mean?

Thank you so much! Although it sounds odd to you, when I was younger, I tried to make mistakes because I wanted to leaned lessons from them. So if I did it deliberately, is it natural to use 'would want to V' in the sentence?

Hi

I've been trying to knit and, yes, a way of doing it is to knit badly so that, easily, you can see your mistakes and what they lead to. I'd say it is a good way of teaching yourself

In UK English, I think we would omit the 'V' and just use triple dots

- Is it OK to start sentences with 'I would want to... '?

No, it doesn't sound right. I think it should be "I did not want to".
