'would' vs 'used to'

Hi there,

Do you think this sentence is grammatically correct?

Our grandmother would always have a surprise waiting for us when visited.

('Have' in this context, bearing a meaning of possession, is a stative verb. Should not 'would always have' be replaced with 'always used to have' instead?)
