Would the word 'undetection' be correctly understood?

Recently I tried to find a right word which would describe a fact that something was not detected. The adjective 'undetected' does exist, but how about a pertinent noun? Would 'undetection' as an antonym of 'detection' be of help or one ought to find another word instead?

lukand Would 'undetection' as an antonym of 'detection' be of help or one ought to find another word instead? I imagined talking about a submarine whose presence is a threat, saying that its detection is vital, and its _____ would be disastrous. I would use "non-detection".

  • "Un-" seems to me to imply agency too much for that.

Not 'undetection'. The usual solution to this problem is "failure to ____", or in your case, "failure to detect".
