This is for a listening comprehension exercise. The text is from a CD. (The Elephant Man)
Context:
The readers of The Times are very kind people. They gave us a lot of money. After one week, we had £50,000, so Merrick could live in the hospital for all his life. We could give Merrick a home.
Assuming that we know that 'we' is 'the hopital', would the following be suitable questions and answers?
1. Are the readers of The Times very generous? Yes, they are.
2. How long after did the hospital receive a considerable amount of money? After one week.
3. What did the hospital eventually manage with all that money? They eventually managed a home for Merrick.

In number 2, "after" does not mean that at the end of one week they received a sum of money, it means that the money they received day to day over the course of that week totalled £50,000 by the end of the seventh day. So your question should be something more like "How long did it take the hospital to amass £50,000?"
