For an action to take place there must be a reason behind it, an excuse of why take these measures. Now, the United States of America is discriminating against immigrants and taking the existence of "terror babies" as an excuse. According to the article, Riddle Warns ‘Little Terrorists' Born in U.S. by Robert T. Garret, the Republican Texas Representative, Debbie Riddle, has come up with a new theory of how immigrants can be dangerous and what must be done. Debbie Riddle's statements initiate intolerance towards immigrants, resulting in yet another era of racism that we all thought was behind us. The new theory presented by Debbie Riddle is now circulating American Society and is leaving chaos behind. This speculation states the following: "Pregnant women are coming as tourists to have a baby and then returning to their native country, with the nefarious purpose of turning them into little terrorists who will then come back to the U.S and do us harm." The right of any baby born on U.S soil to obtain American citizenship is under the 14th amendment and it is clear that Debbie Riddle is not in agreement with it. Her theory is obviously terrifying and if proved accurate it is completely reasonable to be hostile against the law that allows "terror babies" to roam around. However, this brings up an important query, which is the following: is this hostility only meant towards the law or towards the other immigrants, who people will now see as terrorists or friends of the terrorists? It is evident from the article that the author is already associating to the fear that has been brought up by this new postulation as he tries to relate with the public by identifying to earlier events in U.S history. He mentions the event of September 11, 2001, Time Square bomber, and the man accused of attempting to bomb a fountain in Dallas, all of whom he assumes entered the country legally. He tries to relate these horrifying events with what is being said now in order to impact U.S citizens. Robert T. Garret has taken the role of assuring to the public the existence of "terror babies." First of all, he portrays the conversation between Debbie Riddle and Anderson Cooper in a way to display how trustworthy she is. The author demonstrates Debbie Riddle as having all the proper responses to every single question that Anderson Cooper stated. With this the public is deceived into believing that Debbie Riddle is the one who is correct. The public is then mislead into accepting her supposition; and once all the supporters of this theory have the trust of the public and have introduced fear in their minds they are able to steer their fear into hate. We can see this clear transition through the article as it first reveals "terror babies" and then goes on to say, "the immigrants are taking down our health care, our education, and it's a huge burden." All this that is being said in the article depicts the immigrants to be terrorists, who not only bring fear but are also taking advantage of American citizens. To create such disorder in a society one can assume that the Republican Texas representative had proof and was confident that her accusations were nothing but the truth. This is not the case, as Debbie Riddle appears to have no evidence. In the article by Robert T. Garret she mentions that the source who endorsed her speculations were the FBI. Nonetheless, the author of the article very conveniently decided to omit the reply of the FBI, which was, "The FBI has 75 offices overseas. There was never a credible report, or any report, to indicate that there was such a plan for these ‘terror babies' to be born." This brings the doubt of why create all this turmoil? It appears to be that the aim of these people is to eliminate the 14th Amendment. However, changing this law would mean to have the approval of the majority of the people and the Texas republicans know this. To gain the support they are inflicting fear towards "terror babies" and immigrants. So when the moment comes to expose their radical solutions the public will give them their support since they made it seem as if discrimination towards these group was the only thing they deserved and the only solution. This is what American society has resulted to, slandering about "terror babies" in order to disguise their racist ways. It is apparent that the politicians are trying very hard to construct fear and hate in their citizens in order to bring back inequalities, conflict, and hostility. They are trying to manipulate their own citizens into doing what they believe is right. However, what they believe is right is at the cost of hurting another group of people. It is unethical and the moment the citizens start to believe their lies it is the moment where xenophobia will be their only companion.
