Would save us ----would reduce the echo

Hi

Below are two sentences, does 'would' refer to 'future' or 'past'?

1. This new computer system would save us a lot of time when doing the accounts.

2. Thick carpet would reduce the echo in this hallway.

It depends on the context. 'would' can go either way in those sentences. If the context is that you're planning to implement a new computer system or contemplating installing some thick carpet, then 'would' is future.
