What is the difference among would rather ... than..., would sooner... than..., and would just as soon... as...?

My understanding of "soon/sooner" in these examples is that native speakers don't look at it as a time factor, as they would in "She came sooner than I expected."

But a learner's dictionary says that 'somebody would (just) as soon' is used to say that someone would prefer to do something or would prefer something to happen.

You're talking about two different expressions.

( 1 ) Are you coming with us to the movie? (reply) I'd just as soon stay home.
This is commonly used to mean "I'm staying home." I'd say it's casual.
Shall we go to McDonalds? (reply) I'd just as soon go to Burger
