Would Rather

Hi,

We use "would rather" + past simple to say what we want someone or something else to do in the present or future.
But i can't make out of the following examples and would be so thankful if anyone clarify each in detail:
E.g:
1- I'd rather you didn't tell anyone about all this.
2- Would you rather I asked someone else?
3- I'd rather we didn't discuss that, if you don't mind.

Thank you in advance,

Iman
