Which sentence is correct?
1. I would prefer that Joe stay in Cleveland.
2. I would prefer that Joe stays in Cleveland.
3. I would prefer that Joe stayed in Cleveland.

If you mean that there is the possibilty that Joe will leave Cleveland, number one is correct in American English, number two is usual in British English, and number three is commonplace in American English and I don't know how the Brits feel about it.
