WOULD PREFER TO +present perfect?

Hi! everyone Could you tell me,what do these constructions mean?
1-I would prefer to have gone by train
2-I would rather have gone by train(I think it is same as above but I am still not clear about the meanings of both these sentences,I mean in which circumstances I could say the above sentences please help me getting their meanings.

1 - I would have prefered to go by train. [That was my preference at the time, but it didn't work out.]
2 - [This is how I would say it, in order to express exactly what I mean.] I wish I had gone by train.
