If so, could you tell me why "I'd like to drink a glass of water, please" sounds unnatural while "I'd like a glass of water, please" sounds okay?

"I'd like to buy 3 tickets to Chicago." sounds just the slightest bit formal, but buying tickets at a railway station ticket office is a somewhat formal situation, and so this still works okay.

"I'd like to drink a glass of water, please.", however, sounds overly formal in any situation - moreover, there's nothing more informal than drinking a glass of water - and so it's not natural-soun
