Actually, it's a translating exercise (from Chinese to English),

the original sentense is : ????????????????????????,??????????

My version: Life could not always be as smooth as you expect (it to be). The better you can handle the press, the less it will influence you.

... as you would like it to is okay

... as you would like it to go. is okay.

Or, Life can not always be as smooth as you would like/expect it to be. Your "could" is out of place, I think.

But there's a difference in "expect" and "like."
