Would Like Doing Something

Hello everyone,

Is it okay to use "a gerund" after "would like" as follows?

1. I would like spending money.

2. I would like playing football.

3. I would like going swimming/to swim.

Regards,

JA

This pattern is not impossible, but it is rather unusual, and your examples might be taken as mistakes for the equivalents with the to-infinitive or without the word "would". If we take a different example: 1. I would like to live here.

1. I would like to live here.
2. I would like living here.

These two are slightly different in meaning: (1) expresses a desire, while (2) imagines your feeling

Another point that I forgot to mention is that "would enjoy verb-ing" is probably more common than "would like verb-ing", with similar (maybe not quite identical) meaning.
