Hi.
What's the difference between "would like" and "like"?
as in the following sentence from Play Winning Chess:

White would like nothing better than to penetrate the line through f7 and launch a major offensive against the enemy monarch.

Do you mean 'likes' means he has penetrated the line already? He has done it many times in the past and relishes the experience.
