Hi teachers, The context: Felix walked slowly back to his office. There were a lot of questions in his head, and he did not know the answers. ‘Why can’t I talk to people at the prison?’ he thought. ‘What did the President say to the Chief on the phone? And why does she want Dinon dead? He went to prison because he murdered the old President. Everybody knows that. What can he talk about … now?’
My question: Would it be also correct to use the verb 'say' in the question? I think it is not, but someone told me it is. What did Felix think that everyone was aware of? He thought that everybody was aware that Dinon had gone to prison because he had murdered the old President.
Thanks in advance.

By the way, "What did Felix think that everyone was aware of?" is an interesting one. I don't know if it's just me, but I tend to want to read it as meaning that people were aware of what Felix thought. For that reason I would be inclined to delete "that". Perhaps someone else could give a second opinion on this one.
