WOULD in the past sentence

Hello,

could you please help me to understand why the word WOULD is used in this sentence?:

I was sad because she wouldn´t invite me to her party last week.

I know that would is also used in the past sentences to express the futur (so it remplaces WILL) but in this case since there is mentioned LAST WEEK I would say that sentence like this: I was sad because she didn´t invite me to her party last week.

Many thanks in advance for your advice.

lucluc I was sad because she wouldn´t invite me to her party last week. "wouldn't" is stronger than "didn't". "would", when negated , can mean something close to "refused to".
