Thank you for the answer. I though "would" as a past tense verb could conform to "yesterday".

I think you don't consider "would" a past tense verb here. So, how to identify where it's and where it's not in past tense please?

Is this sentence incorrect too:

He could go to any college he wanted to.

Do you mean yet "could" is not past?
