Would have had to

Hi,

Is the following sentence correct?

It is good that company chose this path now; otherwise it would have had to take some action about this problem in the future

Thanks,

MG.

Mister Micawber,

Thanks. I am confused here. Please see the following sentences. The first sentence talks about what could have happened, whereas the second sentence talks about an actual possibility.

How can we use ‘it would have to’ in both cases?

1. It is good that company chose this path now; otherwise it would have had to take

Both refer to the future; # 1 does not refer to the past ('could have happened') at all, since the 'choice' in the first clause is 'now',placing 'the future' in the second clause in the real future.
