Hi

Why is "would be possible" correct in sentence #1, and why is "would be possible" wrong in sentence #2 and should be replaced by "would have been possible"?

  1. If Lars Iyer hadn't already written Spurious, it would be possible to call his second novel a unique event.

If the coach hadn't been fired yesterday, it would have been possible for him to steady the club and take it on to much better things next month.
