Would have

When I left for California for a week, I was happy that Jack would have completed the tasks that I have given to him before i returned home. But when I got home, he hadn't even started.

Any correction needed?

Thabk you for your response. Why is would have incorrect? I believe it shows the completion just like 'will have'.

I did not say it was. The sentence was unnatural, and I recommended a correction.

There is no need for the modal perfect when the modal present does the job just fine. It sounds contrived.

So 'would have' wouldn't be incorrect in the sentence, right Mam?
