Would did

Hi ! I have two questions.

1 ) A: I was thinking about what you said and maybe I should go to the party

B: what'd I say?

that conversation, "what 'd" is "what did" or "what would"? ( that conversations are from some drama's subtitles)

2) A: I quit the job yesterday

B : why would you do that?

why B say" would" not "did"

thank you.

opqr 1 ) A: I was thinking about what you said and maybe I should go to the party B: what'd I say? that conversation, "what 'd" is "what did" or "what would"? I presume 'what did', but without further context, B's response is just a non sequitur.

  • why B say" would" not "did" Because he is wondering.
  • In his mind, it is still just a possibility.
