"would be" and "would have been" in a possibility

Is there any difference between the two sentences given below? Please explain.
Everything would be very different if your father were still alive.
Everything would have been very different if your father were still alive.

Actually, you should use 'had been' instead of 'were' in the sentence above because it's the third conditional sentence. But, you can use 'were' only in the colloquial sentences. Besides that, these sentences can have different meanings.
