would and present in the if-clause ?

Hi !

As a native speaker of English would you accept: If he IS appointed, we WOULD have to resign ??

I'd expect either: If he were/was appointed, we would have to resign
or: if he is appointed, we will have to resign.

Yes. I wouldn't get too upset if I heard it from someone else. Nevertheless, I would say:
If he's appointed, we'll have to resign. (we'll = we will)
would doesn't seem quite right to my ear.
