Would

Hi,

Why is "Would" used in the following dialogue?

A: I must have left wallet at home. It really WOULD not matter. It is just that I left in such a rush. I did not have any breakfast and now I am starving.

B: So am I.

A: Sorry

B: There is younger generation now a days. Love-ins they remember ,wallets they forget.

Is speaker "A" dreaming or imagining (conditional two without if clause) or this is simply the past tense?

Thank you

It is taken form "That Girl" I have been watching on Hulu.

Rewrite:
I must have left my wallet at home. It really would not matter (ordinarily).

It is a common use of "would" as a conditional.

In most situations, it wouldn't make any difference if I had my wallet or not. I seldom need to have my wallet with me. But this time, I'm hungry and
