Would

Is it correct to say: "Well, I would like to join it, but I don't have any headset yet, so I think I need to buy one"?

Top answer

It would be more usual to say "I don't have a headset yet". Otherwise, your English looks OK, but I can't figure out what you are talking about. What does "it" refer to?

would like to is an idiom that doesn't always conform to the rules you may have learned about the use of "would", so this is OK, if that's what you're asking. You treat it like an ordinary present tense. It's like saying "want to".
