I have to use "would " to express regular action in the past.
1. Evry night we pleaded with him to sleep early, but he pretended not to hear.
a) Every night we would plead with him to sleep early, but he would pretend not to hear.

Which one is correct? (a or b)

I would not say that "to sleep early" is natural sounding.
I would recommend "to got to bed early" as my first choice and "to go to sleep early" is the second choice. I don't consider "to sleep early" correct.

Everything except "sleep early" sounds normal to my American ears. I doubt I'd choose to say "sleep early" voluntarily, but rather would say something similar to what Barbara described.
