I'm out of a job.
I'm unemployed.
I'm jobless.

or, as you suggested

I don't have a job.

I would say "I'm not working". To me "I don't work" is like saying you have never worked and have no intention of ever working. Maybe you're independently wealthy.

It's like the maid who declares, "I don't do windows".
