Working people

Hi, with "working people" do they refer to working class or just a general working people in society? I'm not sure to what it refers...

""Liberalism" can refer to political, economic, or even religious ideas. In the U.S. political liberalism has been a strategy to prevent social conflict. It is presented to poor and working people as progressive compared to conservative or Rightwing."

We like to think of ourselves as a classless society, at least in the feudal sense. The term also still carries the odor of Communism.
