Working on my grammar.. help needed please

Hi all,

I am working on my overall language and literature skills. To help me could anyone please tell me if there are any material differences between the following sets of statements and if, in general, the first of each pair is any worse in terms of structure than the second.

Set 1
I appreciate the conversation regarding the grammar earlier, if something is important to an individual then we need to be able to say it and respond appropriately.

On a slight other note, Is your spell check set to US or UK? There have been a few “Americanisms" creep in that i have noticed. I just altered mine to UK.

In set 1 and 2, the first sentence has a grammatical error called a "comma splice."
