I want to convey that when I was born my mother was employed as a nurse. She didn't start the job when I was born, but had been doing it for a number of years. I don't want to emphasize the duration, just the fact she was a nurse in a hospital. Which one is better?
When I was born my mother worked in a hospital.
When I was born my mother was working in a hospital.
