I checked the meanings in a few dictionaries and feel they are essentially synonymous. Could you please tell me if I understand the two correctly?
Why are you so worked up? [edgy- nervous]

Let me say, though, that I use them slightly differently. To me, you have a definite reason to be worked up. Maybe you're going through a divorce, for example. Or you've just had an argument with someone. You are worked up about something.
Being wound
These typically have a different sense, and would be used in different situations, for example:
A: "Darn it! I don't like what the boss said to me. My whole day is ruined."
B: "Why are you so worked up (angry, upset)? The boss didn't mean anything by that. He was just joking with you."
