The context is a student in grade seven says this.

I am working hard with academics. (An academic is a person with a higher education who works as a professor in a university.) So the speaker might have a job outside the university, but has to work with the academics.

I am working hard in my academic subjects. (Academic subjects are math, foreign languages, sciences, and other subjects that are taught in higher education.)
