Work Song by Nina Simone

Good evening. I don't understand the meaning of this line of the song:
"Well reckon that ought to get it"
The line before says: "Hold it steady right there while I hit it"
and it's pretty clear it refers to a rock that has to be broken by a member of the chain gang.
I thought it could be rendered as: "Consider that I should get it - the rock." Any suggestions? Thanks

I think it means that doing that (i.e. one holding it while the other hits it) should produce the desired result, i.e. to break the rock.
