Work or job

Hi!

I wonder whether I should use the word work or job in the following sentence.

Please advise!

The department does excellent work (or job?).

Thank you!!

The department does an excellent job....... Normally you will have to add something after the job, otherwise the sentence is awkward. The progressive "is doing" is also possible if the job is still in progress.
