Teaching

Work in Progress, Longman.

Hi, all! I've started to teach a Diploma Program in Indonesia. We use the Longman: Work in Progress book. And the problem is that I'm not given the Teacher's Resource Book by my institution, so that i get confused. How should i prepare the lesson plan which suitable with the book? I'm looking forward to have some ideas from you, as experienced teachers (especially those who have used the book), how i should deal with the book(and the lesson plan)?
I really appreciate your help.Thank you Emotion: smile

Hi there, I am not familiar with this book but generally, we introduce the title or chapter topic by explaining the meaning or getting the students to elicit ideas and vocabulary. This can be used as a warmer exercise or you could do an extra exercise after on the topic to engage students' interest. Then we pre-teach the vocabulary which they will need for the exercise with repitition and pronunciation practise also.

  • I like to do exercises in pair and groups to mix up the students and make things more interesting.
  • The students always check their answers between themselves, this gives them confidence to speak in the class also.
