Wordy?? Can you correct please?

This is the sentence... does it sound bad? How would you improve it?

"Maternity leave was most stressful for one of the participants, who had her child/baby right before the peak season, which resulted in her interrupting maternity leave in order to ensure an orderly flow of business in the company during this crucial period of the year. In contrast, maternity leave was most easily managed in the case of women who were in non-management positions at the time."

How does this sound to a native speaker? ... bearing in mind that this is part of a thesis, so it shouldn't sound too informal Emotion: smile

would you sayhaving a child or a baby? which sounds more formal and appropriate in the context?

Thank you in advance Emotion: smile Emotion: smile ***

I was correcting my text now and I would like to reinforce that I really like your suggestion. I have to keep in mind that short sentences are preferrable in English!
Thank you so much!
