Words not found in the dictionary

I recently came across some terms on my high school's webpage:

"modified basketball"
"modified wrestling"
But neither is in the dictionary! And a google search proves fruitless.

When I was in school, there was no such thing. What do these words mean?

Thanks!

Well, "a" is in the dictionary, and so are "la" and "mode", but that doesn't mean I am able to divine what "a la mode" would mean.

Same with "modified basketball"
