Wording help please?

Hi,

Would you please check for me If I am correct in this idea? They can't be exchanged.


Let soup simmers / boil for a while.

Let water boils / simmer for a while.

It is sad that many of these dead were children. (Noun)

It is sad that many of these (who were) killed were children. (Abbreviate always omit here)
