Wording help please?

Hi,

Could you kindly advise which word is correct in these sentences?


Say, I am a political opposition or defector in the third world country.


I am going to ask for a[ refuge / asylum ] in a foreign embassy. (Which word is correct here?)

I have been refuged in American embassy since last month.

I was refuged in American embassy for few months before I could leave the country.

My home is my refuge / sanctuary / shelter, nothing better than here in the world. (Which word is correct here?)
