Wordiness

Hello,

Is it ever acceptable to be wordy because it adds style to writing? For example, if I said "Mussolini was defeated" vs. "Mussolini fell with defeat", the second example uses more words than necessary, but delivers a greater punch. What are your thoughts?

Is it ever acceptable to be wordy because it adds style to writing? It's OK if it adds style or punch or extra information, but not OK if you simply want to fill up your page more. I think that most new writers make the mistake of being too wordy, rather like someone nervous who talks too much.
