Word substitutionn

Cheng Lee Meng, 62, was jailed for two months after trespassing into an SAF training area in Lim Chu Kang.
He lied to a warrant officer that he was there to conduct works, then changed his account
He had obtained the keysfor a gate at the training area from a pest controller.

1. Can "for" substitute for "after" in the first sentence?


2. Can "work" substitute" for "works" in the second sentence?



3. Can "to" substitute for "for" in the last sentence?

"For" is better. That "after" sounds like TV journalese.

"Work" is better in my US dialect. I don't know what it means to conduct works.
